Resume work when you choose
CodexContinue is a free skills plugin by CloudD901 for scheduling one continuation in an existing Codex desktop chat. Choose a time, or ask it to continue one minute after the detected five-hour account usage reset.
It provides reusable instructions and optional Windows PowerShell scripts. It does not add a separate scheduling server, extra credits, or new host capabilities.
Codex plugin One-time scheduling Free
What it does
- Target the current conversation by saying “this chat,” without supplying a title or project.
- Target another existing chat by its exact title and project.
- Check the account reset time when asked to resume after reset.
- Preserve a supplied continuation message exactly, or use default instructions to continue the approved work and remaining validation.
- Inspect, change, and cancel scheduled continuations.
Example requests
Invoke CodexContinue in the conversation you want to schedule:
Continue this chat one minute after reset, with this message: “Finish the remaining implementation, run the tests, and summarize anything unresolved.”
Continue this chat after my five-hour usage reset.
Continue chat “My project work” in “My project” tomorrow at 9 a.m., with this message: “Review the existing changes and complete the approved plan.”
Specify your time zone if it differs from your usual local zone. Review the reported target and date/time after scheduling.
Requirements and availability
The native workflow requires the Codex desktop app and its available tools for in-chat scheduling and account usage. Keep the computer awake, Codex running, and the project accessible when local work is due.
The default buffer is one minute after the detected reset. Scheduling does not guarantee a successful turn: account limits, host availability, project access, and required approvals still apply.
Installation alone creates no schedule. Cancelling a future continuation does not undo work already dispatched.
Schedule before the allowance reaches 0%
Create your schedule before the five-hour usage allowance reaches 0%. Checking usage and creating a schedule require an available Codex turn. Set up the backup before starting a long-running task.
Before starting; use @CodexContinue to find the time of the 5h expiration and automatically pre-schedule a continue message in the event that we run out of credits. At the end of the long running task, cancel the scheduled continue if one exists. Include the creation of a new schedule with each continuation message.
Here “5h expiration” means the account’s usage reset; the default continuation time is one minute afterward. A saved continuation runs at its scheduled time unless cancelled. It does not automatically monitor whether credits ran out.
For this explicitly requested backup chain, each continuation first checks whether the task is complete. If it is, cancel any remaining backup and stop. If unfinished, check the current reset time and pre-schedule one new backup before resuming work; cancel it when the task finishes. Carry the same task and backup instructions forward. If you supply an exact custom message, include those instructions in that message.
Optional Windows CLI scripts
The bundled PowerShell scripts can register a one-time Windows Task Scheduler task that resumes a saved conversation through codex exec resume. This option requires Windows, the signed-in Codex CLI, the verified chat ID, and its project directory.
CLI execution has different tools from the desktop app. Use only one scheduling route for a continuation and avoid simultaneous work in the same chat. Scripts create local request and log files; see the Privacy Policy and support instructions.
